Description of the project activity:
Adani Group, a diversified conglomerate has interests in various activities including interests in commodity trading, edible oil refining and infrastructure projects and services. Adani Enterprises Ltd (AEL), the flagship company of the group, is an international trading house dealing in nearly 70 commodities in more than 60 countries around the world. Adani Power Limited (APL) is a subsidiary company of Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL).
The power division of AEL is a well known name in power trading activities in India. However this is the first project where AEL has ventured into power generation segment through its subsidiary APL. APL is the project proponent for the project activity under consideration. In this project activity APL will implement the high efficiency power generation using coal-fired super-critical technology at Mundra, Gujarat which would result in reduced consumption of fossil fuel and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for thermal power generation.
Purpose of the project activity:
The proposed super-critical coal fired power plant will be implemented at Mundra. It will have an installed capacity of 1320 MW, (i.e. 2 x 660 MW). The project activity would result in higher generation efficiency (around 40%1) as compared to sub-critical coal fired power plants presently operating in India which have average generation efficiency of around 30.05%2 (refer to table 3.1of Annex 3).
