Name of Project Installation of Plate Type Heat Exchanger for preheating combustion air of primary reformer and reducing heat loss of atmosphere through flue gases at Indo-Gulf Fertilizer

Brief Description of the Project The project activity employs preheating of combustion air of primary reformer by installing plate type heat exchanger. Generally, plate type heat exchanger is used for transferring heat between two liquids and used for mostly corrosive type of liquid. IGF has carried out extensive study and experiments to utilize the low-grade heat of flue gases by installing Plate heat exchanger for gas-to-gas heat transferring application. The technology employed in the project activity is very unique in nature. Prior to implementation of the project activity, modular type heat exchanger was used to extract heat from flue gas and preheat the combustion air of primary reformer.
The salient features of plate type heat exchanger are
a) Higher heat transfer coefficient.
• Less prone to leakage.
• Higher efficiency.

Baseline methodology The project follows “II.D Energy efficiency and fuel switching measures for industrial facilities under the small scale methodologies Type II-Energy efficiency improvement project” Methodology.
