Ispat & Stemcor, UK to set up MetCoke Plant

Ispat Industries is planning to set up a metallurgical coke oven plant in Maharashtra in joint venture with Stemcor UK. The project involves setting up a 1.5 million tpa coke oven plant along with a 150 MW captive power plant to meet the captive met coke requirement of Ispat Industres steel plant at Dolvi. A new company in the style of Amba River Coke Company has been floated in which Stemcor will hold 76 per cent stake and Ispat will hold 24 per cent stake. The JV will also have a back-to-back agreement for long- term sourcing of coking coal from Australia. The project is estimated to cost Rs.9,000 million. As of December 2007, work on the project has started.
