Madurai District Milk Producers Cooperative Union is planning to set up a mega dairy unit in the city. The project involves setting up a unit on a 40 acre premises of the existing unit with a capacity of five lakh litres of milk. The project is estimated to cost Rs.700 million. As of October 2007, a detailed project report has been forwarded to the Commissioner for Milk Production and sanction is expected in a month. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in the year 2010.
