Vizag Steel Plant reports progress on Expansion
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam has reported progress on its expansion project intended to hike the capacity of the plant from 3 million tonnes (mt) to 6.3 mt at a total cost of Rs 86000 million. As of July 2007, the company is in the process of finalising plant & machinery supply agreements with various suppliers. They include,
* Signing agreement with Danieli & C Spa, Italy for supply, erection and commissioning of three continuous casting machines for converting liquid steel into billets, both in square and round shapes, a semi-finished product, which is the input for other rolling mills in the first stage of expansion works, and structural mill and special bar mill in the second stage. This casting mahcines project is estimated to cost Rs.5,380 million and will be implemented by the Italian co along with its consortium partners, Gilanders Arbuthnot and Danieli Engineering India. The project will be commissioned within 25 months.
* Sigining agreement with BHEL for supply and erection of turbo blower required for supplying air for combustion in the blast furnace. BHEL is executing the contract along with consortium partner, Man Turbo of Germany. While the main blower is under the scope of Manturbo, the turbine will be manufactured at the Hyderabad plant of the BHEL. The capacity of the blower is 4.18 lakh normal cubic metre/hour and it consumes 40 MW of power.The blast furnace is being supplied by Paulwurth (Italy) and L&T consortium. The project is estimated to cost Rs.1,070 million and will be commissioned within 27 months.
