SAIL to expand Rourkela Steel Plant

SAIL India is planning to take up an expansion programme at Rourkela Steel Plant. The project involves increasing the capacity of hot metal from 2.0 million tpa to 3.6 million tpa, 1.9 million crude steel to 3.3 million tpa and saleble steel from 1.67 million tpa to 3.02 million tpa. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 60,000 million - 70,000 million tpa. The expansion programme is scheduled to be completed in 2001. As of April 2007, the project is in the advanced stages of getting approval from the board.
