Tata Steel to expand capacity
Tata Steel is planning to expand the capacity of the crude steel plant from 5.0 million tpa to 6.8 million tpa at East Singbhum, Jamshedpur, Jharkhand through augmentation of some of the existing facilities and addition of a few units . Iron ore requirement will be met from existing Noamundi, Joda east, Khandband iron ore mines. Limestone will be sourced from Katni-Niwar-Jukehi (BF Grade) and imported from Thailand /Dubai (Low silica SMS grade). The steel making process will be based on BF-BOF process. On-line stack monitoring facilities for new sinter plant (SP-4) and power house (PH-6) will be provided. Dust extraction system and dry fogging system will be provided to control air emissions at material transfer and sizing plants. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 45,200 million. As of April 2007, the project has received clearance from Ministry of Environment & Forest.
