Tehri Hydel reports progress on Vishnugad Pipalkoti HEP

Tehri Hydro Dev Corp has reported progress on the 444 MW Vishnugad Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project in the state of Uttaranchal. In April 2007, the company has decided to apply part of the loan proceeds to be obtained from IBRD to fund the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Package. The company intends to pre-qualify contractors and/or firms for the EPC package for which the tenders are expected in October 2007. The scope of the work includes

(i) Civil Works: 65 M high gravity concrete dam, 10 m diameter diversion cum spill tunnel, 12 m dia. spill tunnel, Intake structure followed by three desilting chamber each of length 350 m and size 16m(W) x20.6m (H), 13.4 Km long Head Race Tunnel (HRT) of size 8.8 m dia.(Horse shoe shaped), 130 m high, 22 m dia.restricted orifice type surge shaft, 351 m long, 5.2 m dia.pressure shaft, Under ground Power house having an installation of 4 vertical Francis turbine generating unit each of 111 MW, an underground transformer cavern to accommodate 13 single phase, 46 MVA transformers and 420 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS), an underground down stream surge tank of size 120m (L) x12m (W) x27m (H), a 3.07 Km long, 8.8 m dia. (Horse shoe shaped) Tail Race Tunnel (TRT), Coffer dam, etc.

(ii) Hydro Mechanical works - Radial & Vertical Gates along with hoisting arrangements for Spillways & Intakes and penstock steel liner etc.

(iii) Electro Mechanical works: Four generating units including turbines each of 111 MW & generators, 13 single phase, 46 MVA, 13.8 / 400 KV transformers and 420 KV GIS, XLPE cables and control system, etc.

(iv) Assistance in successful operation of plant for six months.
