Birla Cellulose to expand VSF capacity

Birla Cellulose, the subsidiary of Grasim Industries is planning to take up an expansion programme at its viscose staple fibre unit at Kharach, Hansot in Bharuch district of Gujarat. The project involves expanding the capacity of Viscose Staple Fibre from 60,000 TPA to 1,27,750 TPA, increasing the capacity of Sodium Sulphate from 38,400 TPA to 96,000 TPA and increasing the capacity of the captive power plant from 15 MW to 25 MW.

The project will be carried out at its existing facility. The project is estimated to cost Rs.4147.7 million. As of April 2007, the project has received clearance from ministry of environment and forests.
