Empee Distilleries Plans 10 MW Bio Mass PP

Empee Distilleries is setting up a 10 MW Woody Biomass Based Power Generation Project in Tamil Nadu. The proposed project will be set up at Mukudi village, Aranthangi taluk, Pudukottai district, in Tamil Nadu. The proposed project will generate 10 MW electricity using woody biomass as fuel, principally from Prosopis juliaflora but also from eucalyptus, casuarinas wood, coconut residue and groundnut stalks as the auxiliary fuels, which are renewable energy sources. Approximately 1 MW of the electricity generated will be used for captive consumption and the balance of 9 MW will be exported to the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) grid, which constitutes a part of, and is connected to, the Southern Regional electricity grid of India. The power will be exported from the 33kV switchyard located within the plantby transmission line, connecting to the nearest TNEB substation at Aliyanilai, which is 4km from the project site, via an overhead line. The Boiler & auxiliaries will be supplied by Cethar Vessels, while Steam turbo generators will be supplied by Quingdao Jienberg Engineering Company Ltd, China. Work on the project started in September 2006. As of March 2007, the project is under construction.
