CDM ( or) Clean Development Mechanism is a process that help industries earn incentives in the form of certified Emission Reductions ( also known as carbon credits) by reducing their green house gas emissions.
CDM , under the Kyoto Protocol has provided developing countries like India, multi billion dollar business opportunity by way of earning carbon credits. The CERs issued by the Executive Board of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change can be traded between the project participants and parties which are under the obligation to reduce emissions. There are several steps involved in a CDM Projects. It can be broadly classified as Project Identification, Government endorsement, Project development, Validation, Registration, Monitoring, Verification , Certification and Finally Issuance of CERs.
